School Shooting

Posted on Updated on

I almost hate to rehash the whold school shooting debate but. . .

I will start this off by saying that I do not own a gun but I do not buy into the whole ban gun thing that so many liberals are emotionally buying into.   I believe that what we have is a problem with a lack of morality and yes I do blame the whole thing of the liberalization of our country.   The whole “sex, drugs and rock n roll” thing if taking it’s toll on our country.   Too many people are screaming and protesting the latest craze without actually putting any thought into it.

When I grew up we could go out and buy guns and ammo freely without any waiting period or whatever.   No gun laws to speak of and yes I had several guns growing up a .22 and a shotgun.   And guess what?   We did not have any school shootings we did not go out and kill people.

There has always been a few violent people and many of them were able to surpress that urge with help from Religion, Church and the Bible.  But our society has rejected religion and the Bible and it is no longer used as our moral compass.

And as usual this is turning into another violent person almost being excused for his acts because he may have been bullied while in school.  Again there have always been bullys and there always were.  But in times gone by the people being bullied just went on with their lives after a bit of cussing and complaining.  As a person who has been overweight all his life I know a thing or two about this but I shook it off and have had a wonderful life;  perhaps church played a role in this?

Until we start addressing the lack of morality in the country this kind of violent stuff will not only keep happening it will escalate.

St John Presbyterian – Tampa FL

Posted on Updated on

This is the church I grew up in many, many, many, many (is that enough?) years ago.

A small church but with a congregation that worked tirelessly to serve the community.    Besides the church building on their property they have a Walk In Clinic for those that can’t afford health care,  a group home for developmentally disabled adults and a learning center.

Anyone looking for a church home would do well to give St John a try and if I were to still live in Tampa it would still be my choice.  With that said the folks who were the backbone of the church (Mike and Olga Casanueva, Manual and Hortense Beito, and my mom and dad Charlotte and Henry Knight); of course there are others but right now these come to mind first.

Here is a link to their new website,  please give it a browse and consider them for your new church home.

Does God Have A Sense Of Humor

Posted on

Another short post. I believe that God does have a sense of humor, how else can you explain zebras? And there is this: God gave me a love of music of all kinds and there is very little that I don’t listen to (there are exceptions and they are Rap music and Opera); I love music that I find on YouTube that is older than I am and a lot of music by folks that I have never heard of. (the other shoe dropping) however God did not give me any talent to play an instrument or to sing – yep my singing voice is terrible but I still sing if the right song is playing (Under the Boardwalk by the Drifters is one of them).

Thoughts on Church

Today’s Church

Yes,  I am going to start whining again.   I do miss the old hymns and wish they would sing them once in a while.   I am getting somewhat used to the new music and the guitars and  things but I look around sometimes and none of the congregation is singing along with the new music;  I always thought that the hymns were interactive and it was good that the congregation sang along with the music;  I sing along with the words on the screen but it just isn’t the same.

I liked the old churches like the one I grew up in that had a pulpit that the minister stood at while giving the sermon.  In todays church the minister just wanders around with the wireless mic they use.   Yep, the wireless mic  actually is good as everyone can hear better no matter how close they sit.

The minister used to wear a robe or a collar or something so everyone would know he was the minister and being neat and formal is kind of nice.

With all of that said here is a short video I just found that I think all of us old whiners should watch or listen to:
